"For over 30 years, as a country facing the problem of missing persons, Azerbaijan understands well the importance of issues that can bring sustainable peace," Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan Fariz Rzayev said during the panel on "Problem of missing persons in the processes of trust, reconciliation, and peacebuilding," APA reports.

He stated that international resolutions emphasize solving the issue of missing persons as part of the peace and peacebuilding process: “It is important to include humanitarian elements in peace talks. In a short time after the Patriotic War, 18 mass graves were discovered in the territories liberated by Azerbaijan, where the remains of bodies were buried under inhumane conditions. These are evidence. In recent years, the Azerbaijani government is taking necessary steps to clarify the fate of missing persons. The unknown fate of the missing persons can be an obstacle to reconciliation and lasting peace. Our approach to peace in the region has never been built on revenge. Despite the high risk of landmine explosions, Azerbaijan has returned up to 2,000 body remains to Armenia.”

The Deputy Minister called on Armenia to share information regarding all existing burial sites.
