“The fight against Islamophobia has turned into a serious global movement. In addition to symbolic gestures, concrete proposals are being put forward today against Islamophobia,” said Ibrahim Saleh Al-Naimi, chair of the Doha International Center for Interfaith Dialogue (DICIC) at the international scientific conference themed "Islamophobia: Unveiling Bias and Dismantling Stigmas" held in Baku, APA reports.
According to him, Azerbaijan plays a great role in tackling Islamophobic tendencies today: “We appreciate Azerbaijan’s efforts in combating Islamophobia. The mentioned platforms are already yielding results. Azerbaijan has a great role in the fight against Islamophobia. We believe that such conferences are of great importance in the fight against all forms of Islamophobia and xenophobia. We are witnessing increasing tendencies of Islamophobia and systematic discrimination. Attacks on various places of worship are being carried out. Today, at the level of our Secretariat, monitoring related to Islamophobia is being conducted, as well as religious awareness-raising activities are being implemented. We believe that especially mass media should be active in the fight against religious discrimination. It is necessary to bring all interested parties together and create an environment where everyone can freely practice their religious beliefs. Today, the appointment of the UN Secretary-General’s special representative for interfaith dialogue will contribute to the effective implementation of this work.”
