On May 12, 2025, as part of his official visit to the Kingdom of Bahrain, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan Jeyhun Bayramov met with the Chairman of the Shura Council of Bahrain, Ali bin Saleh Al Saleh, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs told APA.
The meeting focused on the development and continuation of Azerbaijan-Bahrain cooperation at the interparliamentary level, as well as regional and international security issues of mutual interest.
The importance of further enhancing bilateral and multilateral relations based on friendship, brotherhood, mutual respect, and understanding between the two countries, as well as strengthening ties between the peoples through parliamentary diplomacy and increasing mutual visits and exchanges between members of the legislative bodies, was emphasized.
Cooperation between Azerbaijan and Bahrain within platforms such as the UN, the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, and the Non-Aligned Movement was noted with satisfaction. Appreciation was expressed for Bahrain’s support of the Parliamentary Network established within the Non-Aligned Movement and for successfull organization of the 2nd meeting of the Network in Manama.
The Bahraini side was informed in detail about the current situation in the region during the post-conflict period, the large-scale reconstruction and restoration work carried out by Azerbaijan in the liberated territories, efforts to combat the threat of landmines, and the Azerbaijan-Armenia normalization process.
Achievements in the bilateral normalization and peace negotiations advanced through Azerbaijan’s initiative and efforts were highlighted, and it was noted that negotiations on the text of the peace agreement had been concluded. However, it was also emphasized that Armenia’s territorial claims against Azerbaijan, enshrined in its Constitution and certain legal acts, pose an obstacle to regional peace efforts.
An exchange of views was also held on other bilateral and regional issues of mutual interest.
