On May 20, 2025, the next round of political consultations between the Ministries of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Republic of Croatia was held in the city of Zagreb, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs told APA.
The Azerbaijani delegation was led by Deputy Foreign Minister Fariz Rzayev, while the Croatian delegation was headed by the State Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs, Frano Matušić.
During the meeting, an exchange of views took place on the dynamics of the development of political relations between Azerbaijan and Croatia and it was noted that this year marks the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries.
The recent intensification of high-level visit exchanges was appreciated, and the importance of continuing such visits and strengthening contacts within international organizations to ensure the intensity of political dialogue was emphasized.
Furthermore, cooperation in the economic and trade fields, including in the traditional and alternative energy sectors, and prospects for future development were discussed. Projects implemented in the field of humanitarian demining were also mentioned, and the importance of developing the relevant legal and contractual framework to expand cooperation in these and other areas was highlighted.
The meeting also provided detailed information on the post-conflict situation in the region, the Armenia-Azerbaijan normalization process, the steps taken by Azerbaijan towards ensuring lasting peace, the challenges encountered, recent developments regarding the peace agreement, as well as the large-scale reconstruction works being carried out in the liberated territories.
At the end, the parties exchanged views on regional and international topics of mutual interest.
During the visit, F. Rzayev also held business meetings with other Croatian officials and delivered a speech at a conference dedicated to the 30th anniversary of Azerbaijan-Croatia diplomatic relations.
