"At one time, Azerbaijan also faced Islamophobia. In the context of the Armenia-Azerbaijan conflict, Azerbaijan's heritage was destroyed," Farid Shafiyev, Chairman of the Board of the Center of Analysis of International Relations (AIR Center), said during a press conference summarizing the 3rd international conference on "Islamophobia in Focus: Unveiling Bias, Shattering Stigmas" held in Baku, APA reports.
He emphasized that elements of Islamophobia are also evident in statements by some European institutions regarding Azerbaijan: "At the same time, this process is now happening in Armenia. The second issue is that some statements made by the European Parliament and certain European institutions about Azerbaijan contain manifestations and elements of Islamophobia. Unfortunately, Islamophobia is a part of this approach."
The center’s chairman also spoke about the potential outcomes of this international event and future steps: "Firstly, this conference has already turned into a permanent platform. It includes both returning participants and new public and political figures. Secondly, we are witnessing an institutionalization process in this field. A Board of Trustees will be established. We have also considered taking practical steps with our partners. These include conducting joint research, organizing conferences not only in Azerbaijan but abroad as well, and launching courses on Islamophobia."
