"The Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO) has certain potential. However, due to a number of problems, integration has not taken place within this organization," the Chairman of the Center of Analysis of International Relations (AIR Center), Farid Shafiyev said during the event titled "Azerbaijan and the Economic Cooperation Organization: Opportunities and Prospects," APA reports.
He recalled that Azerbaijan is a member of several international organizations and emphasized that no platform should be left out under the current circumstances: "Azerbaijan has been a member of the Economic Cooperation Organization since 1992. In recent years, our country has been actively engaged in a number of international organizations, including chairing the Non-Aligned Movement and the Conference on Interaction and Confidence Building Measures in Asia (CICA). The ECO has expanded with the membership of Central Asian countries. Lately, Azerbaijan has also joined new organizations. One of them is the D-8 Organization. What benefit can Azerbaijan gain from this organization? We should not exclude any platform. The ECO has certain potential, but due to a number of problems, integration has not taken place within this framework."
