INTOSAI: Pandemic affected increase of public debt in recent years

“In recent years, public debt continues to grow at the global level. One of the main factors affecting this was the pandemic,” said Camaliel Cordoba, Chairman of INTOSAI Working Group on Public Debt, Chairperson of the Commission on Audit of Phillipines, APA-Economics reports.

He said that the main task facing the governments at the moment is the proper use of government debt. The activity of higher audit institutions is important in this regard.

He said that annual meeting of the INTOSAI Working Group on Public Debt is also important in terms of studying the experiences of international financial organizations and countries related to the audit of public debt:

“Each member of INTOSAI shares their best experiences. This gives other states the opportunity to benefit from high-level experiences in the correct management of public debt."
