Last year, 379 counterfeit banknotes (32,611 manats) in the national currency and 503 banknotes with signs of forgery in foreign currency were detected, withdrawn from circulation, and submitted to law enforcement agencies for appropriate measures, APA-Economics reports citing the Central Bank of Azerbaijan (CBA).
It was noted that the cash offices established by the Central Bank in Baku and its regional offices for the purpose of accepting unusable banknotes for examination and exchanging them continued their activities. During the reporting year, AZN 6.7 million (155,2 pieces) of banknotes were accepted and exchanged from the population.
