A ceasefire should be the first step towards starting negotiations between Russia and Ukraine, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky made this known in a post on Telegram, APA reports.
The Ukrainian President noted that it is a good sign that the Russians are finally thinking about ending the war: "The whole world has been waiting for this for a long time. The first real step to end the war is a ceasefire. The ceasefire must be stopped from May 12. It makes no sense to continue killing for even one day. We expect that Russia will confirm a complete, long-term and reliable ceasefire from May 12. Ukraine is ready to meet with Russia . "
It should be noted that Russian President Vladimir Putin proposed the resumption of talks between Moscow and Kiev on May 15 in Istanbul .
