The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine has passed bill No. 8371 banning the activities of religious organizations affiliated with the Russian Federation, the law will come into force in 30 days, but the UOC-MP communities will have 9 months to break ties with the Russian Orthodox Church, MP Yaroslav Zheleznyak said on Tuesday, APA reports citing UNN

According to him, the law comes into force 30 days after its publication. “But except for one point - according to it, the UOC-MP communities will have 9 months to break ties with the ROC,” Zheleznyak said.

MP Oleksiy Honcharenko called the adoption of the bill a “historic decision” in Telegram.

“Historic vote in the Verkhovna Rada!” Votes for Bill 8371 ‘On the Protection of the Constitutional Order in the Activities of Religious Organizations’ in the second reading as a whole! From the decision of the National Security and Defense Council in December 2022 and the decree of President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy to the decision of the parliament, it took more than a year and a half! Finally, the Russian Orthodox Church as part of the regime of the aggressor state will be banned, and Ukrainian religious organizations will be banned from having any connection with it! We are waiting for the President to sign it,” MP Yevhenia Kravchuk wrote on Facebook.
