Leftists in France propose another vote of no confidence in government

A group of left-wing deputies called for a no-confidence motion against the government of François Bayrou in the National Assembly after a bill to ease regulations in agriculture was rejected during a debate, the party “France Insubordinate“ announced, which became one of the initiators of the vote, APA reports citing fakti.bg.

“The group of “France Insubordinate“ and “New Popular Front“, together with deputies from “Ecologists“, are filing a no-confidence motion“, the statement said. The request is expected to be considered on June 4 at 2:00 p.m.

Left-wing deputies accuse deputies from the pro-presidential bloc, as well as representatives of several right-wing parties, including the National Rally, whose parliamentary faction is led by Marine Le Pen, of deliberately refusing to hold debates. The aforementioned parties decided to vote against the bill, as they did not meet the deadline for its discussion due to the 1,500 amendments proposed by the “Ecologists“ and 800 by “Insubordinate France“, and therefore decided to send it for consideration to the interparliamentary committee.

The consideration of the bill proposed by the senator from the “Republicans“ Laurent Duplom, took place in the National Assembly on 26 May, amid demonstrations organised by farmers' unions demanding that the text agreed by the Senate not be amended. The initiative aims to remove some restrictions on agriculture - easing environmental requirements and authorising the use of certain pesticides. After the bill was officially rejected on 26 May, the FNSEA, the largest farmers' union, said its members were satisfied that the bill was still under consideration and suspended the protests.

The previous attempt at a vote of no confidence in the government was initiated by the Socialist Party on 19 February 2025, as the left was outraged by Prime Minister Bayrou's statements about the “domination of migrants in the country“. Of the 289 votes needed, the resolution received only 181. This was the sixth vote of no confidence in Bayrou's cabinet. The previous five concerned the draft budget adopted by the government on its own responsibility without a vote in parliament.
