Josep Borrell: EU intends to deepen relations with Armenia in security and defense fields

I expressed our desire to expand our cooperation with Armenia in the field of security and defense, said the High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Josep Borrell at a press conference, APA reports.

According to him, there is a potential for further development of the relations between EU and Armenia: "Today the head of the Armenian Foreign Ministry said that his country is ready to get closer to the EU. Today we decided to prepare the cooperation agenda. This will be a road map for the further progress of our ambitious daily relations."

High Representative noted that EU supports increasing Armenia's stability in transport, communication, and energy security, as well as Armenia's participation in Black Sea green corridor and other regional connectivity projects. 

Borrell also pointed out that today they discussed the regional situation and the normalization process between Azerbaijan and Armenia with the head of the Armenian Foreign Ministry, He said that he was informed about the latest incident in the border.

"Yesterday, reports spread that an Azerbaijani serviceman was injured at the border. This is sorrowful," he emphasized.

He also added that EU is committed to achieving sustainable and lasting peace in the region based on sovereignty, territorial integrity and inviolability of borders.
