Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy signed a 10-year term security agreement on Thursday on the sidelines of the Group of Seven (G7) meeting in Italy, Zelenskyy announced on social networks, and the Japanese government confirmed it, APA reports.

The agreement stipulates that Tokyo will provide Kyiv with $4.5 billion in 2024 and continue to support the war-torn country for the next 10 years in security, defense, humanitarian aid, and financing. In addition, Japan will assist Ukraine in reconstruction and recovery.

"For Japan, this type of agreement and this level of support is a breakthrough. We see this and thank Japan for its unwavering solidarity with our country and people, as well as for its dedication to protecting life and international law," Zelenskyy said in a post on X, formerly known as Twitter.
