Georgian President Salome Zourabichvili is considering the issue of Mikheil Saakashvili's pardon, said Shalva Papuashvili, the Speaker of the Georgian Parliament, APA reports citing Georgian media.
He reminded that when the issue of Salome Zourabichvili's impeachment was discussed in October 2023, the "United National Movement" Party voted against the proposal:
"Salome Zurabishvili is currently holding on to her position only because of Mikheil Saakashvili. Of course, granting a pardon is within the president's authority, but I am confident that the head of state will use her powers and pardon M. Saakashvili."
Note that the former president of Georgia, Mikheil Saakashvili, was detained in October 2021 on charges of secretly crossing the border. In May 2022, his health deteriorated and he was admitted to one of Tbilisi's private clinics.
