Baku – APA. Foreign Minister Teodor Baconschi received today Eldar Hasanov, the Ambassador of Republic of Azerbaijan to Romania, APA reports quoting Romanian Media.

The head of Romanian diplomacy underlined the importance Romania attaches to Azerbaijan, with which it has strategic partnership ties. He referred to concrete ways for implementing the decisions made at the latest summit meeting between the two Presidents (Bucharest, September 28-29, 2009), also laid down in the Declaration on setting up the strategic partnership between the two countries.

Foreign Minister Baconschi said Romania and Azerbaijan could have an immense potential of collaboration, insufficiently tapped in the economic area especially, and said that concrete steps would be taken to spur bilateral trade, mutual investment and direct cooperation between business circles in Romania and Azerbaijan. He expressed the opinion that a new session of the Joint Inter-Government Commission for economic and technical-scientific collaboration should be held in the first half of this year.

He also pointed to the priority Romania attaches to cooperation with Azerbaijan in the energy sector, as both countries are equally interested in building a solid energy corridor to link the Caspian basin to the European continent, according to the principles of diversification of the supply sources and creation of alternative energy routes. In the context, the two countries’ support for the Nabucco and PEOP projects was reiterated.
