The drilling of a second well is planned in the "Shafag-Asiman" offshore block, Gordon Birrell, BP’s Executive Vice President for Production and Operations, told journalists, APA-Economics reports.
According to him, the first exploratory well was drilled in the block several years ago, and reserves were discovered there. After analyzing all the data obtained from the well, it was concluded that the block’s potential is greater and that a second well should also be drilled here.
Gordon Birrell also noted that TPAO (Türkiye Petroleum), a long-standing and very reliable partner of BP and SOCAR in the Caspian Sea, has expressed strong interest in joining this partnership.
“TPAO has now officially joined the partnership with BP and SOCAR, and we plan to drill a second well in this block to confirm that the layer is larger,” the vice president emphasized.
