Since the beginning of the development of the "Oil Rocks" field located in the Azerbaijani sector of the Caspian Sea, 181.2 million tons of oil have been produced here (as of April 1, 2025 - ed.), SOCAR told APA-Economics.

According to the information,14.2 billion cubic meters of associated gas were produced during the reporting period.

According to the information, 1983 wells have been drilled in the field, of which 430 are in the exploitation well fund.

On November 7, 1949, oil gushed from the first well drilled in "Oil Rocks" (with a daily production of 100 tons), thus laying the foundation for oil production in the open sea in world history.

"Oil Rocks" entered the "Guinness Book of Records" as the first offshore platform in the open sea.

The field, measuring 12 km in length and 6 km in width, began development in 1951 and is currently operated by the Neft Dashlari OGPD of SOCAR’s “Azneft” Production Union. More than 180 km of trestle bridges have been constructed at the site, along with over 320 production platforms and hundreds of kilometers of oil, gas, and water pipelines.

Approximately 70% of SOCAR’s annual oil and gas production delivered to the shore is transported from “Oil Rocks.”
