Since its commissioning, 11.2 billion cubic meters of gas have been produced from the "Umid" gas-condensate field located in the Azerbaijani sector of the Caspian Sea (as of April 1, 2025), APA-Economics reports citing SOCAR's data.
1.65 million tons of gas condensate have been produced from the field during the reporting period.
It is noted that deep exploration drilling in the structure began in 1977, but no testing operations were conducted in any well. The "Umid" gas-condensate field was discovered through well No. 8 drilled from Stationary Offshore Platform No. 1 during 2009–2011.
All operations—from the construction of the platform installed in a sea area with a depth of 58 meters to drilling works—were carried out entirely by SOCAR’s own resources. The "Umid" field has gone down in history as the first field independently discovered by SOCAR during the years of independence.
According to preliminary estimates, the reserves of the field are evaluated at 129 billion cubic meters of gas and 20 million tons of condensate in the Balakhany VIII, Fasila (B, C, D), Fasila E, KVK, and QA reservoir formations.
The development of the "Umid" gas-condensate field, which was put into operation in 2012, is carried out by the Azerbaijan branch of “Umid Babek Operating Company” (UBOC).
