Completion operations are underway on the first well drilled as part of the free gas development project at the Azeri–Chirag–Gunashli (ACG) field block, aimed at extracting gas from two priority reservoirs, Tamam Bayatli, bp Azerbaijan’s Head of Media Relations, told journalists, APA reports.

According to her, drilling operations for the well have been completed, and final completion work is currently ongoing.

As part of the free gas development project at the ACG field block, the drilling of the initial well targeting two priority reservoirs has been completed.

“The well has been drilled to its planned depth, and completion activities are in progress,” Bayatli said.

She added that construction and installation work is being carried out in parallel to connect the well to the existing export infrastructure. This will allow the gas produced from the well to be delivered onshore once production begins.

Bayatli also noted that first gas from the well is expected to be produced by the end of this year.

On September 20, 2024, a new amendment was signed to the existing ACG Production Sharing Agreement (PSA) to advance exploration, appraisal, development, and production of free natural gas (FNG) reserves at the ACG field. These recoverable reserves are estimated to be as high as 4 trillion cubic feet.

Under this amendment, SOCAR and ACG partners are currently planning the next stages of development for FNG reservoirs. As part of this effort, the initial well targeting two key reservoirs has been drilled. This well is considered significant, as it will also enable reservoir assessment through production, which will help inform future development plans.
