The European Union once again emphasizes that Azerbaijan is a reliable partner in the energy sector, particularly in natural gas and renewable energy, Cristina Lobillo Borrero, Director for Energy Platform Task Force and International Relations-Directorate-General for Energy at the European Commission, said during her speech at the Baku Energy Forum, APA-Economics reports.
"Here in Azerbaijan, I am presenting a very clear example of reliable partnerships. We have a very strong cooperation with Azerbaijan in the field of gas. But it’s not limited to gas – we are also working closely in the area of renewable energy," she said.
According to the official, the European Union has identified energy security as a priority and aims to reduce its dependency on Russian gas by cooperating with alternative and sustainable partners. In this context, collaboration with Azerbaijan holds particular importance.
The EU official added that the bloc has already reduced its gas imports from Russia from 155 billion cubic meters to 33 billion cubic meters and is working to fill the gap through renewable energy and other reliable sources.
“The European Union is currently working on embedding its climate neutrality targets for 2030, 2040, and 2050 into a legal framework, while expanding affordable energy supply and preserving industrial competitiveness,” she added.
