# 12 May 2025 15:02 (UTC +04:00)

Azerbaijan’s Minister of Energy Parviz Shahbazov met with Gert Jan Koopman, Director-General for Neighbourhood and Enlargement Negotiations at the European Commission, APA reports.

The meeting focused on the key priorities of energy cooperation between Azerbaijan and the European Union. It was noted that Azerbaijan's gas exports to the EU increased by more than 57% from 2021 to 2024. The importance of investing in the expansion of the Southern Gas Corridor and securing long-term contracts was emphasized. EU policies on financing gas projects were also reviewed.

Koopman expressed strong interest in cooperating with Azerbaijan within the context of the Middle Corridor, particularly in the Caspian-Black Sea-Europe Green Energy Corridor project. Discussions highlighted that the project is currently in the feasibility study phase, with efforts underway to include it in the 10-Year Network Development Plan (TYNDP) of the European Network of Transmission System Operators for Electricity (ENTSO-E).

Information was shared about the corridor's electricity and fiber-optic components, as well as future green energy supply prospects. The potential integration of this corridor with the Central Asia-Azerbaijan Green Energy Corridor was also discussed. Minister Shahbazov noted that the project could connect Central Asia to Europe via Azerbaijan, enabling large-scale energy exports from Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan and contributing to the EU’s energy diversification.

The sides also exchanged views on holding the third meeting of the Azerbaijan-EU energy dialogue.
