"The Iranian foreign minister’s assistant and director general of Eurasia Directorate, in a meeting with Russia’s Ambassador in Tehran, said respect for national sovereignty, territorial integrity, and mutual interests of countries are the guarantors of sustainable peace and can serve as the foundation for regional cooperation in the Caucasus," says the statement of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Iran, APA reports.
"During the meeting, the Iranian official shared his views on the ongoing developments in the Caucasus. He also highlighted Iran’s stance on supporting the restoration of peace and stability in the region, and helping to boost cooperation between the regional countries, adding Tehran is against any change in the internationally recognized borders and geopolitical changes in the region.
The Iranian diplomat also stressed the need to take into consideration the legitimate concerns and interests of all countries in the region.
Meanwhile, both sides underscored that the regional countries’ capacity should be used to resolve the issues to help consolidate peace and stability in the region and implement economic plans, bearing in mind the interests of all parties.
It should be noted that Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, who visited Baku some time ago, said in his statement to the Russian "First Channel" that Pashinyan is sabotaging tripartite agreements on Karabakh.
"Unfortunately, it is the leadership of Armenia that sabotages the agreement signed by Prime Minister Pashinyan regarding communications passing through the Syunik region of Armenia (Zangezur-ed.). It is very difficult to understand what is the logic of such a position. But I am sure that the foundation laid in the tripartite meetings and in the tripartite documents remains fully relevant," Lavrov said.
They also discussed the upcoming meeting of the consultative 3+3 mechanism as well as a meeting by the Iranian, Russian, and Azerbaijani foreign ministers," the statement reads.
