Baku – APA. The United Nations has condemned the ongoing occupation of Nagorno-Karabakh and seven adjacent territories by Armenian forces in several Security Council resolutions. The occupation was declared to be in violation of international law and thus the resolutions called for an immediate withdrawal of Armenian troops. The UN Security Council resolutions have our full support, said Bundestag member Axel Fischer, (CDU/CSU), Member of the Budget Committee and of PACE, responded to the European Azerbaijan Society on Armenia’s illegal plans for Khojaly airport, APA reports.
Touching on the Nagorno Karabakh conflict and Khojaly airport, Axel Fischer said that they constitute the international legal basis for a solution of the conflict:
“Armenia should have ended the occupation a long time ago. The fate of the refugees depends on the reinstatement of Azerbaijan‘s territorial integrity. The first step will have to be taken by the Armenian side, i.e. the withdrawal of their forces from the occupied regions. Our regional support for Azerbaijan in the preservation of its rights points to close collaboration. The South Caucasus region is a remarkable political, economical and cultural area. Azerbaijan has an important function there. Germany takes its role very seriously, especially within the European Community. For example, the European Union took up a clear position after last year‘s so-called presidential elections in Nagorno-Karabakh in not recognizing them. The conflict must be prevented from becoming total deadlock. However, Armenian plans to re-open Khojaly Airport for international aviation raise serious concerns if deadlock is to be avoided.”
