At the initiative of the Embassy of Azerbaijan in Germany, the German-language version of the film “On Distant Shores” (1958) (“Uzaq sahillərdə”) has been digitized and restored in Berlin, with significant improvements made to its image and sound quality, the Embassy of Azerbaijan in Germany told APA.
Note that the film “On Distant Shores” was dubbed into German by Germany's DEFA studio and released in Berlin in 1959 under the title “Damals in Triest”. As a result of the embassy’s cooperation with the DEFA studio and archives, the German-language version of the film was discovered and restored in high quality by a company specializing in the restoration of classic films in Berlin.
The restored version of the film was screened on April 23 at the cinema of Berlin’s renowned Urania Science Center, organized by the Embassy of Azerbaijan. The screening was dedicated to the 80th anniversary of the victory over fascism in World War II.
The event was attended by representatives of German state institutions, ambassadors from various countries, scholars, cultural figures, film critics, journalists, as well as members of the Azerbaijani, Turkish, and other friendly communities living in Germany.
Azerbaijan’s Ambassador to Germany, Nasimi Aghayev, in his speech, emphasized that the film “On Distant Shores” reflects the determination, self-sacrifice, and unwavering will of the heroic partisan Mehdi Huseynzade and his homeland, Azerbaijan. He noted that Huseynzade was not only a dedicated fighter but also a symbol of international solidarity and heroism, who fought against fascism far from his homeland and gave his life for these ideals.
N. Aghayev specifically emphasized that Azerbaijan contributed to the fight against fascism not only with its human resources but also with its rich energy reserves, playing a decisive role in achieving victory.
