On June 3, the official opening ceremony of the CIS Cultural Capital – 2025 took place in the city of Lachin, APA’s correspondent dispatched Lachin reports.
The Minister of Culture, Adil Karimli, delivered the opening speech at the event.
The minister noted that the meaning of the word “Lachin” in Azerbaijani is “falcon,” which accurately reflects the spirit and atmosphere of the city: “This city, like a falcon, soaring among high mountains, has become one of the region’s most precious gems. Here, unique nature intertwines with ancient and rich culture. Lachin has been one of Azerbaijan’s cultural centers, inspiring famous ashugs (folk poets), poets, painters, and musicians.”
Adil Karimli emphasized that the city is known for its numerous historical, architectural, and cultural monuments dating back to ancient periods of Azerbaijani history: “The ancient traditions of Azerbaijani carpet weaving have been enriched by Lachin’s Gasimushşaghi carpets. The event’s logo features traditional patterns unique to Lachin carpets. The cultural heritage of Lachin is not limited to poetry, music, and visual arts. The local cuisine can also be considered a work of art, where a variety of tastes and aromas preserve centuries-old traditions and culinary secrets.”
Following his speech, Nurlan Seytimov, Deputy Secretary-General of the CIS, Polad Bulbuloghlu, Co-chairman of the Board of the CIS Interstate Humanitarian Cooperation Fund, Masim Mammadov, Special Representative of the President in the Lachin, as well as Mikhail Shvydkoy, Special Representative of the Russian President for International Cultural Cooperation, spoke about the significance of the event.
At the end of the opening ceremony, Mikhail Shvydkoy presented the “Union Cultural Capital” Certificate to Masim Mammadov, the President’s Special Representative in the Lachin region.
Note that around 100 official representatives and guests from six CIS member countries are participating in the event.
