"The speeches of some states regarding the climate agenda are surprising,” said the Official representative of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Maria Zakharova, told Azerbaijani journalists within the framework of the meeting of the Council of Foreign Ministers of the CIS held in Moscow, Russia, APA's Moscow correspondent reports.
According to her, besides being politicized, the climate issue has become a field of manipulation and lies:
“The topic of climate concerns each of us. This means the environment, water, air, everything. We are witnesses of various natural phenomena occurring in the world. This is an important agenda for our future. However, we see that not only in recent years, even decades, the climate issue has become politicized, but has also become a field of manipulation and lies. The speeches of some countries regarding the climate agenda are surprising. They either call to sign some document, then refuse to do so, then withdraw from the agreement themselves, and sometimes they invite everyone to the agreement again. I think one of the most obvious examples is the situation around Greta Thunberg. They used her as a toy. This should not happen. Serious discussions must be held. This is what I wish for Azerbaijan. Environmental issues should not be hijacked by those who do not care what topic they are talking about,” - Spokesperson of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs emphasized.
