The opening ceremony of the COP29 Academy, established to ensure the active participation of youth in environmental awareness and the fight against climate change, gain active experience in this field, and train professional young people for organizing large-scale and globally significant events in the country, has been held, APA reports.
During the ceremony, the names of the 29 young individuals selected for the COP29 Academy from among 360 candidates through tests and competitions were announced. The event was attended by COP29 Azerbaijan President-Designate Mukhtar Babayev and Chair of COP29 Azerbaijan Operating Company and Chief Operating Officer for COP29 Narmin Jarchalova.
Speaking at the event, Mukhtar Babayev congratulated the young individuals admitted to the Academy, wished them success in their future endeavors in combating climate change, and noted the importance of youth participation in global events with the potential to present modern technology and innovations in the fight against climate change.
Providing detailed information about the selection phase and education program of the COP29 Academy, Chair of COP29 Azerbaijan Operating Company and Chief Operating Officer for COP29 Narmin Jarchalova stated that the education process at the Academy will continue until early September. The Academy's curriculum, consisting of various modules, will offer participants mentorship and opportunities for continuous professional development. This will enable them to acquire soft skills such as project management, professional conduct code, and knowledge in the field of sustainability.
It was noted that outstanding participants of the COP29 Academy will be employed in various functions within the Operating Company, contributing to the organization of the COP29 event as members of the working staff.
