“As the host country of COP29, we must highlight the threat posed by landmines at this prestigious event in Azerbaijan and focus on this issue at the 29th session of the UN Conference of Parties on Climate Change (COP29) to be held in Baku in November,” said Nusrat Suleymanov, Deputy Head of the Department of Foreign Policy Affairs of the Presidential Administration of Azerbaijan, Head of the Secretariat of the Interdepartmental Center at International Conference on Demining, APA reports.
He emphasized that landmines are a threat to both land and water: “Thanks to this conference, we share the experience gained in the field of humanitarian demining. We call mines the seeds of death. Because they kill people. Landmines are a major threat to both water and land. We must eliminate threats to humanity, including landmines. As the host country of COP29, we must declare the threat posed by landmines. We should focus on this issue at the COP29 to be held in Azerbaijan. Of course, it was impossible to do it in two days, but I think we managed to do it, we learned something from each other, we understood the seriousness of the issue. I want to express my gratitude to everyone who participated in this conference. I hope that by the next meeting we will be able to clear our planet of mines."
