"COP29 will play a key role in keeping the issue of climate change on the agend," Executive Secretary of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) Simon Stiell said at a meeting held at the office of the Non-Aligned Movement, APA reports.
He noted that 98% of the world's population lives in regions with climate infrastructure problems:
"I want to recall the recent hurricanes that occurred here. We believe that everyone should aim to work towards a healthy future. The COP28 summit held in Dubai discussed many serious issues, including forming the agenda for COP29 to be held in Baku."
I especially want to highlight the special role of Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev in organizing this prestigious event. COP29 will be a significant platform for all countries, both in terms of regulating actions and setting expectations regarding climate change," he added.
