The results of the climate action assessment conducted in more than 100 countries will be unveiled at COP29,” Chairman of the Chamber of Accounts Vugar Gulmammadov during his speech at the annual meeting of the Working Group on Environmental Audit of EUROSAI, APA-Economics reports.
He said that the Brazil's Supreme Audit Institution (SAI), which chairs INTOSAI currently, has launched the initiative called Climate Scanner together with INTOSAI Working Group on Environmental Audit, with the support of experts and international organizations (UN Department of Economic and Social Affairs (UNDESA), World Bank, United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), etc.).
“The Climate Scanner tool intends assessing the government's efforts to combat climate change by more than 100 SAIs. To date, the results of the assessment conducted by various SAIs, including the Accounts Chamber, have been included in the relevant system for summarizing" - the Chamber of Accounts chairman noted.
Vugar Gulmammadov added that arising from the mentioned issue, within COP29 on November 14, organized by the Chamber of Accounts and INTOSAI, the event on “At what stage are governments in their climate action? – Climate Scanner assessment results” will be held. The event is planned to be held with the participation of representatives of international institutions, government and parliament, as well as representatives of SAIs of some foreign countries with extensive audit experience in this field.
