"The hosting COP29 summit in Baku is a reflection of Azerbaijan's global influence," Director General of the Caspian Strategic Studies Institute of the Russian Federation Igor Korotchenko said in a statement to journalists, APA reports.
"In recent years, Azerbaijan has risen to the level of a strategic partner of Russia among all post-Soviet countries. Having restored its territorial integrity, Azerbaijan is confidently developing and moving toward the future. Most importantly, there are relationships based on trust and confidence between both countries and their presidents. Today, efforts are being made to strengthen regional alliances worldwide. I hope the upcoming summit will be successful, and Azerbaijan will make its significant contribution to this work. Today, under the leadership of President Ilham Aliyev, your country is shaping the global agenda. The hosting of COP29 summit in Baku is a reflection of Azerbaijan's global influence. Azerbaijan is a country that always fulfills its promises, and this trait is positively received worldwide. At a time when the modern world is experiencing a very complex period, no one can dictate anything to Azerbaijan or Russia. The leaders of our states prioritize national interests above all else. This is precisely why there are excellent prospects of our bilateral relations. We will further strengthen our relationships by developing cooperation in all areas," the expert emphasized.
He also noted that official Yerevan must comply with the substantiated conditions set by Azerbaijan for signing a peace agreement:
"The peace treaty will ensure peace with Armenia. However, this country does not wish to sign the peace agreement. It continues to use provisions that are not fully agreed upon. The Armenian side also does not want to amend its Constitution, which includes territorial claims against Azerbaijan, while the West encourages official Yerevan."
Igor Korotchenko called the U.S. attempts to create a "fifth column" in Azerbaijan unacceptable:
"Members of the Azerbaijani Milli Majlis have addressed official Baku to halt projects and activities linked to the U.S. that contradict national interests, including those by USAID. USAID is a tool through which U.S. intelligence agencies prepare colored revolutions in various countries. I am confident that Azerbaijan's intelligence services will take the necessary measures to prevent the establishment of a 'fifth column.'"
