"Changes in sea levels are an existential risk for small island states," COP29 President-Designate Mukhtar Babayev said during a High-Level Dialogue on Climate Transparency held ahead of the 29th session of the Conference of the Parties (COP29) to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), APA reports.
He noted that in the last 10 years, the sea level has risen at twice the speed compared to before: "The consequences of climate change are occurring frequently. Therefore, at COP29, we must do everything we can under the Paris Agreement to ensure the success of our actions against climate change. Transparency is a key part of these efforts."
