Our renewable energy potential will undoubtedly increase by more than three times, Elnur Soltanov, the Deputy Minister of Energy of Azerbaijan and Chief Executive Officer of COP29 Azerbaijan, said during a panel discussion held in Baku as part of the UN's Preliminary Conference of the Parties on Climate Change (Pre-COP29), APA reports.
"As we prepare our COP29 energy initiatives with the Ministry of Energy, we have indeed drawn inspiration from this specific initiative, the tripling of renewable sources and doubling of energy efficiency. Moreover, most of the energy-related initiatives focus on network improvement, local and international green energy corridors, and what we call grid-scale storage facilities, right? The next point I want to highlight is that Azerbaijan has started implementing its commitments under the initiative."
We already started operating the largest solar power plant in the whole region in Azerbaijan last year. Our renewable energy potential will undoubtedly increase by more than three times. As for green corridors, we are actually a leader by example, and I think this term will be one of the legacies of Azerbaijan. One of the most memorable outcomes of COP28 was accordingly energy efficiency," he said.
