The report presented today on the obligations defined in the National Action Plan for 2024 at the national level puts an end to inadequate steps in this area, the adoption of new national obligations and the submission of national action plans of each country for the next year in this area will be a bolder step towards becoming, Simon Steele, the executive secretary of the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change, said this at the presentation ceremony of the report covering the period up to 2030 on the obligations of countries in the field of climate change, APA reports.
He said that the national action plans of all countries do not sufficiently cover the steps required to prevent the consequences of climate change, especially its damage to the economy and the lives of billions of people:
"The bolder new national action plans that will be drawn up in this area will lead to the elimination of the crisis caused by climate change and the prosperity of the lives of individual countries, as well as the people of those countries. This issue will also increase the volume of investments in countries, economic growth and job creation, in addition to all this, it will lead to the reduction of the problem of atmospheric pollution. I should also note that the solution of the above problems will allow to gain advantages in the protection of people's health, the availability of ecologically clean energy and other issues At a time when new national action plans are being prepared, this year's report suggests that little progress has been made in this area.
According to S. Steele, the full implementation of the current plans to prevent climate change will result in the release of 51.5 gigatons of waste into the atmosphere in 2030. This indicator is only 2.6 percent lower than in 2019.
At the same time, he said that pollution of the atmosphere with greenhouse gases in the above volume will result in damage to every country both from the human factor and from the economic point of view.
The UN official added that according to the report of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, the amount of greenhouse gases released into the atmosphere in 2030 will decrease by 43 percent compared to 2019.
According to S. Steele, the UN will support a number of countries in the process of implementing those plans during the next year:
"By 2035, it is planned to reduce the amount of greenhouse gases emitted into the atmosphere at the global level by 60 percent compared to 2019. This factor means a reduction of the global warming level by 1.5 °. Since climate disasters are deepening, every degree is of special importance here. The National Committee on Climate Change The next phase of action plans will lead to progress in the field of climate action. These plans should include new and targeted targets of 1.5 percent of greenhouse gas emissions and other structures of the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change provides a wide range of support to countries belonging to the vulnerable group through extensive cooperation. The national action plans for combating climate change will be one of the most important documents of this century. The steps for their implementation and the involvement of the world community in this process will be announced at the 29th Session of the Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Agreement on Climate Change (COP29) to be held in Baku.
In Simon Steele's speech, the countries that will participate in the 29th Session of the Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Agreement on Climate Change, which will be held in Baku, will confirm the commitments reached in both the UAE and COP28, the promotion of the use of renewable energy sources, the global adaptation goals, as well as the depleting fuel said that they will once again demonstrate their commitment to the obligations of renouncing their sources:
"COP29 should enable the achievement of concrete and targeted results in the field of climate finance by identifying the needs of developing countries. It should be determined that such support is the main way to protect each country and the world economy from the harmful effects of climate change. The last round of national commitments is a sign that irreversible changes are taking place. The new commitments should promote the use of renewable energy sources and the transition to a low-waste economy in the world for the next year."
