The 3rd meeting of the Board of Directors of the Fund for Responding to Loss and Damage, which was established to help developing countries that are especially sensitive to the negative effects of climate change, began its work on September 18 in Baku, APA reports.
At the meeting of the Board of Directors of the Fund for Responding to Loss and Damage, which will last for 3 days, it is expected that historically significant decisions will be made regarding the Fund's acquisition of the status of a financial institution in the World Bank system and the start of full operational activity.
About 200 representatives from developed and developing countries, the UN and other international organizations, the World Bank, international non-governmental organizations and like-minded groups participated in the event.
Mukhtar Babayev, the appointed President of COP29, Minister of Ecology and Natural Resources of the Republic of Azerbaijan, who made an opening speech at the event, drew attention to the importance of global solidarity and increasing efforts in the fight against climate change, as well as the need to start the practical activities of the Fund.
