Russia detains Former Deputy Defense Minister for fraud

Former Deputy Defense Minister Pavel Popov has been detained in Russia for fraud on a particularly large scale, APA reports citing Nexta.

The Army general was dismissed from his post two months ago. He worked as Deputy Defense Minister for 11 years and supervised the system of Russian Defense Control Centers. The case against him is related to the activities of "Patriot" Park, investigators said. He is accused of fraud in the construction and maintenance of the park.

Popov worked with Shoigu for a long time. Since 1996 he worked in senior positions in the Russian Emergencies Ministry, from 2008 to 2013 he was deputy head of the Emergencies Ministry.
