Russian planes were not destroyed during the attack on airfields on June 1, but were damaged, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov said, APA's Moscow bureau reports.
According to him, the equipment in question was not destroyed, as representatives of the Ministry of Defense said, but rather damaged: "They will be restored. Draw your own conclusions from this. Moreover, the nomenclature we are talking about now is not necessarily fully covered by this or that treaty. As for START [Strategic Arms Reduction Treaty], as you know, we have suspended it," the Russian Deputy Foreign Minister said when answering a question about the possible impact of the attack by the Ukrainian Armed Forces on the strategic balance.
The diplomat emphasized that the statements of the Ukrainian authorities regarding the results of the strikes are not true.
It should be noted that on June 1, the Ukrainian army launched a drone attack on Russian strategic aviation airfields located in the Murmansk, Irkutsk, Ryazan, and Amur regions. The attacks were carried out from Russian territory, directly near military airfields. As a result, it was reported that a large number of aircraft of the Russian Aerospace Forces were damaged. The Ukrainian side announced the destruction of more than 40 Russian strategic military aircraft capable of carrying nuclear weapons.
