Those who bring rue plant to Russia will be arrested, Azerbaijani lawyer Alakbar Garayev, who lives in Russia, made this statement, APA’s Moscow correspondent reports.

According to him, the presence of the narcotic substances “carnine” and “carmaline” in the herb known in Russian as “isırık” (rue) leads to criminal liability for those who bring this herb into Russian territory.

Lawyer Garayev said that a few days ago, a Kazakhstani citizen of Azerbaijani origin encountered such a case in Russia. This compatriot crossed from the Kazakhstan border into Russia by personal car and went to Novosibirsk. In Novosibirsk, his sister put rue on her brother’s new car to protect it from the evil eye. On his return to Kazakhstan, he was stopped in Russia due to the presence of rue in his car. A pre-trial detention order was issued against him. The Azerbaijani Kazakhstani citizen faces a prison sentence of 5 to 10 years.

Lawyer Alakbar Garayev warned Azerbaijanis traveling to Russia not to bring rue plant in their hand luggage or suitcases. Otherwise, they will face arrest.
