Samvel Karapetyan’s statement was not about the church, but about the Republic of Armenia, said Armenia’s Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, APA reports.
According to him, efforts have been made to create the impression that certain individuals can come to Armenia from elsewhere and resolve matters here using their own methods. The Prime Minister stated that Armenia has specific response mechanisms and that he will not tolerate anyone making such claims.
"Armenia is a democratic country, where everyone has the right to express their opinion and hold meetings, but no one can threaten our country," Pashinyan emphasized.
He declared that in any case, the harshest measures will be taken.
“Samvel Karapetyan said that if politicians cannot succeed, we will intervene in our own way. This statement has already received and will continue to receive an adequate response,” the Prime Minister added.
Note that yesterday, the Armenian Criminal Police began searches at the home of Samvel Karapetyan, head of the “Tashir” Group of Companies and a Russian businessman.
Everything started after the businessman stood up in defense of the Armenian Apostolic Church.
Armenia’s Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan also commented on the events on his social media account:
“This is not the village of Nizhniy Tapr in Kaluga for you, this is Armenia. I hope the taste of the state will linger with you.”
The Armenian Ministry of Internal Affairs confirmed the detention of Samvel Karapetyan. The Ministry’s press secretary, Narek Sargsyan, stated that Karapetyan was detained in Yerevan.
