An Armenian-origin blogger and businessman, Areg Shepikhin, has been charged with two criminal cases in Russia, APA’s Moscow correspondent reports, citing the Russian Investigative Committee.

One of the criminal cases against the Armenian blogger was opened under the article “Incitement of hatred or enmity.” The details of the second case are not yet known.

It was reported that a linguistic examination was conducted, and based on its results, grounds were found to initiate the criminal case. Shepikhin is currently being questioned at the Moscow Investigative Committee. Investigators plan to file a petition to the court for his detention soon.

The Russian Investigative Committee also stated that a criminal case has been opened against the persons who kidnapped Shepikhin from Yaroslavl railway station. The six individuals involved are accused of kidnapping and exceeding their official powers.

Note that the Armenian blogger posted a video statement on social media insulting Chechens and Islam. After the video was posted, a group of civilians of Chechen ethnicity caught him at Moscow’s Yaroslavl railway station, forcibly put him into a car, and drove away from the scene. The incident at the station was recorded by bystanders, and the footage has caused public outrage in Russia.
