Dan Blessington: â€œWe are interested more in the elections basing on legal principles than in the winner of the presidential elections in Azerbaijanâ€

Viktoriya Dementieva â€“ APA. â€œWe are interested more in the elections basing on legal principles than in the winner of the presidential elections in Azerbaijan,â€ International Foundation for Election Systems (IFES) Azerbaijan Chief of Party Daniel Blessington said, APA reports. He said that compared with 2005 election legislation had been improved.
â€œThere are problems related to the Electoral Code even in the United States. There is no perfect election system, but we are trying to make progress and find a variant close to perfect,â€ he said.
Dan Blessington said they were working on new amendments to the Electoral Code. â€œThese amendments are mainly connected with complaints and appeals. We are cooperating with the Central Election Commission to make amendments to the code in the next elections. I hope that the situation in this field will get better owing to the amendments to the Electoral Code,â€ he said.
IFES representative added that the foundation assisted CEC in holding trainings for the members of the election commissions.
Dan Blessington said five representatives of IFES would observe the elections unofficially on October 15.
