OSCE observation mission visits Public Television

Baku–APA. Head of the OSCE/ODIHR observation mission to watch presidential elections in Azerbaijan Ambassador Boris Frlec and mission’s media analyst Rasto Kuzel met with Director General of ITV Azerbaijan Public Broadcasting Company Ismayil Omarov on Monday. ITV sources told APA the ambassador informed Omarov about their activity and said 40 observers from 23 countries were working at the mission’s Baku Office. 450 observers more will join the mission several days before the voting day. “Our duty is to observe, but not to interfere. We are observing, reporting and advising only. We do not make conclusion on the legitimacy of the elections. ODIHR and PACE will announce their joint opinion next day after the elections”.
Omarov said Public Broadcaster was trying to fulfill its duties in the election process worthy. “The election is an indicator of the people’s political culture. We as Public Broadcaster are trying to achieve election activeness of the population. We started to broadcast election education program before the campaign”. The Director General said all candidates would be provided with equal conditions.
The visitors positively appreciated ITV’s activity in the election process. The mission’s media analyst Rasto Kuzel said he welcomed ITV coverage of political forces not joining the elections. The OSCE official said they would watch ITV’s activity throughout the election process and discuss the results with the Public Broadcaster’s authorities every week.
Ambassador Boris Frlec was familiarized with the studios where the candidates would hold debates and address the voters, as well as the visitors’ room. He satisfied with the ITV’s preparation for the agitation campaign. He said even televisions of his country Slovenia had no such studios. Frlec congratulated ITV authorities for their achievements.
