AIC and USAID hold Investment Conference in Guba

Baku. Nijat Mustafayev – APA-Economics. On December 11, 2008, the Azerbaijan Investment Company (AIC) in partnership with the USAID’s Private Sector Competitiveness Enhancement Program (PSCEP), held an Investment Conference at the Guba Barpa Spa Center.
Over 20 companies attended the conference and presentations were made by AIC, Caspian International Investment Company, USAID, PSCEP, International Financial Corporation and Davachi Broiler.
All regional business community members, business service and input providers, and media representatives received information on the nature of the operations for each above listed company and a basic description of equity investment was instilled in the business to business meetings held with the leading companies.
AIC and USAID implementing partner Chemonics International are planning to hold similar investment conferences in a number of regions of Azerbaijan in 2009.
AIC is a state-owned joint stock company established in March 2006 by Azerbaijan President Aliyev, with an initial capitalization of 90 million Azerbaijani manats. The main purpose of AIC is to promote local and foreign direct investment and portfolio co-financing, within the non-oil economic sectors of Azerbaijan.
The USAID PSCEP, with support from the Government of Azerbaijan, will improve private sector competitiveness in six key sectors and eight subsectors of the economy. Potential sectors under consideration include: Fruit and Vegetables, Animal Products, Information Communication Technology, Light Manufacturing, and Packaging.
