Baku – APA. Spokesman for the Armenian Defense Ministry Artsrun Hovhannisyan regarded interviewing of Akop Injigulyan, who was captured while crossing the territory controlled by Azerbaijani Army, as the violation of Geneva Convention.
In this regard, spokesman for the Azerbaijani Defense Ministry, Colonel Eldar Sabiroghlu told APA that such a statement of the Armenian Defense Ministry’s official is incomprehensible: “Hovhannisyan should not have spoken so. I would like to ask him. Did he think about the treatment towards Azerbaijani captives in Armenia while mentioning the violation of Geneva Convention? The interviews given by Azerbaijani captives under pressures were repeatedly demonstrated on Yerevan TV channels. Such video shootings are still used. Doesn’t it mean the violation of the relevant clauses of Geneva Convention. When Akop Injigulyan was captured, his appearance was awful. He was dirty, had torn shoes and shabby and torn clothes. It was impossible to go up to him, because of stench and lice. He had a bath, was cleared of lice and put on a new uniform of Azerbaijani soldier. The captive said that their military unit suffered from lack of food and commanders took soldiers’ food home for their children. Hovhannisyan hesitates to talk about it, because it is shameful. But the hunger and poverty in Armenia have affected the army. Parents are tired of taking food for their children, who are serving in the military. Such unbearable situation makes mothers hold rallies in Yerevan. To which international convention can Hovhannisyan relate these realities in his country? I’m waiting for his reply.”
