Azerbaijan’s Mission to NATO: “One of main transit lines for withdrawal from Afghanistan passes through Azerbaijan”

According to Azerbaijan’s Mission to NATO, the current situation of ISAF operations and post-2014 NATO mission in Afghanistan were discussed at the meeting.

It was noted at the meeting that the transition process is normal and combat skills of Afghan national security forces are increasing. Afghan national security forces will be able to bear responsible for main security in a few months, for full security by the end of 2014. After 2015, NATO will lead to the non-combating, training, supporting and assisting mission in Afghanistan. Withdrawal of ISAF cargos from Afghanistan is a top priority.

As a part of his visit to Brussels, Colonel-General Safar Abiyev met with the Defense Ministers of several countries and exchanged views on the issues of mutual interest.

Azerbaijan is known as potential operation partner of NATO’s post-2014 mission in Afghanistan. One of main transit lines for withdrawal from Afghanistan passes through Azerbaijan. Along with military support to the operation, Azerbaijan provides training, financial and other support to Afghanistan in different spheres.
