Baku. Rashad Suleymanov – APA. On October 10, Azerbaijani Minister of Defense, Colonel General Safar Abiyev participated in the meeting of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) in ISAF format.
According to Azerbaijan’s representation to NATO, S. Abiyev shared views on the current situation of ISAF operations in Afghanistan and noted that Azerbaijan would continue to make contributions. He also noted that Azerbaijan would continue assistance to Afghanistan, after ISAF operations are completed in 2014.
Moreover, he stressed that the tension caused by the occupation of Azerbaijani territories through violation of NATO/PFP principles restricted Azerbaijan’s efforts in this direction. He also underlined that keeping of status-quo on various pretexts and continuation of occupation posed serious threats to the Euro-Atlantic security.
Within the visit to Brussels, Abiyev met with Defense Ministers of several countries and exchanged views on interesting issues.
