Azerbaijani experts conduct mine cleaning operations in the territory of Diyarbakir airport

Baku. Rashad Suleymanov – APA. ANAMA (Azerbaijan National Agency for Mine Actions) is conducting cleaning actions in the area, allotted for expansion of the airport in Diyarbakir city of Turkey, operation expert of ANAMA Adil Aslanov told APA.

To him, the cleaning operation started on May 18. After the cleaning of the territory, former training area of military aerodrome, new terminal will be built here. At present, 22 experts of ANAMA are working at the site.

The area covers 610,000 sq. m. Up to this day, nearly 16 Mk.6 type of reactive missile, as well as the Mk.82 type air bomb, a total of up to 3500 ammunition of different caliber, Mk.76 air bomb containing white phosphorus.

‘Though 80% of this ammunition takes training purpose, they have explosive in their composition’ added ANAMA representative.

Aslanov noted that nearly 10 ammunitions which were impossible to clean, are planned to render harmless on June 18.

‘As the area is too polluted with metal, it is difficult to conduct cleaning operation. Nevertheless, ANAMA experts plan to complete the works until August. They apply modern technology in the working process.
