First magnet mines found in Azerbaijan

ANAMA representative said that since the beginning of search works in 2009 around 2725 unexploded ordnance (UXO), 39 anti-personnel mines, nearly 65kq leavings of trotyl has been found and neutralized.

According to Adil Aslanov, 22 military warehouses found near Guzdek district of Garadagh region are said to be used by Soviet army for sabotage purpose. Itâ€™s the first time ANAMA workers, during 10 years of their activity face magnet mines â€“ plastic explosives (C4) used for terrorism purposes by the Soviet army in the area of Azerbaijan.

Adil Aslanov noted that, though the clearance works on the area is scheduled for 24 months, the process can be stretched. The clearance works of the mine found areas include 12 mine-searcher and 4 assistant personnel.

Note that, magnet mines can be used in marine operations against submarines.
