NATO Regional Response 2009 opening ceremony takes place in Azerbaijan

Baku. Rashad Suleymanov â€“APA. Regional Response 2009 military exercise within the NATO Partnership for Peace Program is continued in Azerbaijan, press service of the Azerbaijan Defense Ministry told APA. Deputy Chief of the General Staff of Azerbaijan General-Major Eyvaz Jafarov welcomed the participants in the opening ceremony. He informed them about the phases of the event and spoke about the previous international exercises in Azerbaijan.

US European Ground Troops Commanding General Carter Ham focused attention on the Azerbaijanâ€™s successful participation in the security of peacekeeping contingent. General Ham spoke about the prospects of the military cooperation between the countries.

The opening ceremony was ended with the solemn march. The exercise will last until April 26. It aims to contribute to the NATO-Azerbaijan Individual Partnership Action Plan. The exercise will be conducted in accordance with the scenario of multinational peacekeeping operations and will cover the plans of checkpoint control, road security, preparation of confined documents, supply and materials, coordination, seizure and search of buildings, battle involving rules, preparation of regular and detailed reports.

Defense attaches accredited in Azerbaijan will attend the VIP Day of Exercise on April 24.
