Elnur Mammadli: We made people stand up and listen to our anthem

Today Azerbaijani athletes, who won the judo category at the Paris 2024 Summer Olympic Games, returned to homeland, APA reports.

The gold medalist of the 2008 Summer Olympic Games, the vice-president of the Judo Federation, Elnur Mammadli, returned to the homeland with them.

Elnur Mammadli shared his impressions with journalists about Azerbaijan's judoka becoming champions.

"First of all, I would like to thank all of you for taking the trouble to come. Indeed, the Summer Olympic Games are one of the biggest competitions for us. Our Hidayat Heydarov and Zelim Kotsoyev also wrestled well. The greatest happiness is that we made people stand up and listen to our anthem and pay attention to our flag in Paris, the capital of France. It is indeed a great success and a great result that for the first time in history we have two gold medals in judo at the Summer Olympic Games. Behind this great success, of course, are the Ministry of Youth and Sports, the Judo Federation, and coaches. Everyone worked together and achieved this success. Again, I congratulate our state and the people of Azerbaijan, especially our Mr. President Ilham Aliyev and our First Vice-President Mehriban Aliyeva. Again, it was very important and responsible for us to sing our national anthem and raise our flag in France," he said.
